Qurbani (known as Udhiya in Arabic) is compulsory for all Muslims who pay Zakah. It is the sunnah of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and a crucial part of Eid-Ul-Adha. The Qurbani entails the sacrifice of an animal which is normally a cow, sheep, goat or camel.
Muslims may consume the meat and utilize the skin of their sacrificial animals and/ or give it away as charity to Muslims or non-Muslims. As for giving the meat in charity, there is no condition as to what type of needy person one must give it to. Allah says, “So feed the one who asks out of need, and the one who needs but does not ask” [Qur’an 22:36]. Hence, one could give it to a friend who was unable to perform the sacrifice, or any other needy person, or multiple parties. Consumption of this meat is considered a great favour of Allah as previous nations of the past were not able to consume their sacrificial animals. The meat, skin or fat may not be used for economic activity such as for re-sale and nor for the payment of wages but may be given as a gift.
Objectives
The basic objective of this project is to distribute the meat to the poor and needy people of slum areas and natural disaster affected areas.
The objective of Qurbani Programme is to share joy and happiness of Eid with orphans, people with disabilities, older persons, destitute people and poor families who are not able to sacrifice an animal or enjoy a meat meal during the festive occasion. Besides sharing joy and happiness one of the main objectives of this program is to raise awareness on national nutrition development of poor people who can hardly manage a single meal of meat in a year and have fallen far behind in the national nutrition level.
