In Bangladesh, over 30% of the total population has become ultra-poor who do not have the opportunity to eat two full meals a day. The nutritional need of these poor and ultra-poor sections remains unfulfilled for days even months together. Flooding in Bangladesh continues to grow more severe and the situation continues to deteriorate since the onset of monsoon rains at the end of June. This year from mid-June harsh downpours inside the country and adjoining northeastern Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya, have further exacerbated the flood situation. This spell of devastating floods severely impacted Sylhet, Sunamganj districts. At the same time, around June 19th flooding severely affected the northern part of Bangladesh, inundating the districts of Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Tangail, and Munshiganj impacting a Total of 7,49,980 people.
