Ramadan is a heart-touching month for Muslims around the world. It is a time to reflect, repent, and seek blessings from Allah. It is a time to practice kindness, generosity, and compassion towards others. Ramadan is a month that touches the hearts of Muslims, and reminds them of the importance of faith, family, and community.
For Muslims holy month of Ramadan is a festivity of gaining spiritual heights through prayers and doing duty to the less fortunate people and other creations of God. In this month devoted well-off Muslims offer prayers in different forms including the display of sacrifice and share wealth with the less fortunate members of their respective community.
Bangladesh is known as densely populated third world Muslim country crippled by poverty, malnutrition, hunger, ill-health and unemployment. The cities/towns are densely populated with significant portion of the population (25%-30%) living in slums & rural area enjoying little or no civic amenities like safe water, gas, electricity, hygienic sanitation and so on. These ultra-poor people with daily income of less than one dollar are mostly day labourer. Again most of them suffer lack of proper food and malnutrition around the year.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is a time of fasting for the Islamic people. Each day during this month, Muslims all over the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, as well as participating in anything that is ill-natured or excessive; from dawn until the sun sets that is called Siyam by the holy Quran. Fasting is intended to educate the Muslim in spirituality, humility and patience. It is a time to cleanse the soul, focus attention on God, and put into practice selflessness. Ramadan is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of God and to put forward more prayer than is customary. In this month a Muslims is allowed only to have a pre-dawn (before Fazr) meal that is known as Suhr and later break their fast by consuming an Iftar meal in the dusk (at Mugrib) and also a dinner in between these two.
